Stained glass has graced the window openings of structures for hundreds of years. Most often associated with castles and cathedrals of Medieval times, ornate designs and glass paintings have provided an atmosphere of worship to many travelers. Modern equipment makes cutting and shaping the pieces an easier task, but the basic assembly has remained time honored and unchanged.
The most common types of leaded glass are Stained glass and Beveled glass. Stained glass uses a mosiac of glass pieces to produce colorful arrays of patterns which come to life when light strikes them from the outside. Beveled glass contains clear, bevel edged plate glass or slightly diffused pieces of glass arranged in an equally artistic pattern — but contain no color. Commonly used for entry door accents or transoms, transparent beveled glass permits maximum light entry as opposed to translucent stained glass. Both types of assemblies use lead channels to hold the glass in place. Hence the term "Leaded" glass applies to both types of windows.
